The opening rounds of the Ginetta GT5 challenge took place at Oulton Park in Cheshire over the Easter Weekend, with W2R Motorsport having drivers entered into both AM and PRO championship categories.
Defending AM class champion Adrian Campbell-Smith returned to a soaking wet Oulton Park, and started his season with a brilliant drive to P2 in class in an action packed race 1. Race 2 saw Adrian making a great start, and pushing forward with some urgency – taking class lead by lap 3 ahead of Evans. Some oil down at the fast Island bend would cause a disastrous end to number sixteen’s weekend, as the race was red flagged a matter of seconds later.
Brett Ward made his racing car debut with W2R Motorsport in what were arguably the worst conditions on track seen over the past few years. With testing pace in the dry looking promising, the weather dealt a cruel blow to Brett as he had very little wet running to adjust to the car.
Brett made good starts in both races, finishing the second (and what was to be the final) race of the day in P15, moving up 6 grid spaces scoring valuable championship points.
With the event being abandoned due to the extreme weather conditions, the GT5 grid look forward to some better weather throughout the rest of the season, with the third Oulton Park championship round due to be re-run where schedule will allow.
