Brett Ward, current Rotax World and X30 European karting champion, today announces his move from top level go-karting to sports cars, participating in the Ginetta GT5 championship with W2R Motorsport.
Ward, 20 from Middlesex, has competed at the highest level of kart racing for a number of years, but now the previous MSA Academy driver has his sights firmly on racing cars. Brett will be making his debut with championship winning W2R Motorsport at Oulton Park in just five weeks time.
“I’m really excited to make the step from karts to cars this season, I’m in good shape and definitely ready for the challenge. Our pace winter testing with the team was very strong, and the cars really suit my driving style. I just can’t wait to get on the grid at Oulton Park and go racing.”
With a fully packed GT5 grid this year, Brett leads the charge for newly named W2R Motorsport (previously team want2race) in the Pro class of the championship. With an experienced team behind him fresh from winning the GT5 AM class with Adrian Campbell-Smith and G40 Cup with Michael Crees last season, things are shaping up nicely for the Yorkshire based outfit.
W2R Motorsport boss Ben Hyland, was keen to sign Brett as the team set their sights firmly on the GT5 Pro championship.
“Signing a top professional karter such as Brett is a positive step forward for us at W2R Motorsport, we have enjoyed success at each championship and Ginetta series we have entered and now look to quickly getting Brett running at the front of GT5, we aim to win races.
Our pre-season testing programme has started well and, along with our championship winning technical team and driver development coaches, we are all working hard together to achieve our goals. Brett has fit straight into the team and is a great personality, as well as a formidable driving talent. We look forward to the lights going out at Oulton on Easter weekend.”
