Sitting in the South East of England, Brands Hatch is roughly 20 miles away from Central London. Making it a real hotspot and one of the easiest tracks to access whether you are coming by road, rail or even air.
All of London's recognised airports are within relatively easy reach of the circuit. Gatwick is only 34 miles away, while Heathrow is around a one hour drive on the M25, with both having plenty of international flights. London City Airport is slightly closer at 20 miles, but they don't have the same amount of international flights as Gatwick and Heathrow.
By car, it couldn't be any more straightforward. Brands Hatch can be found on the A20 near to West Kingsdown. It's just three miles from junction three of the M25, and is linked via the A20 to the M20, M25 and M26 motorways.
As a major race circuit in the United Kingdom, Brands Hatch is right up there with Silverstone in terms of prestige and history. Some would even say that Brands Hatch is better.
Its current high-speed reputation is a long way from it origins though, with those dating back to a group of keen cyclists. The area was used for many years for military training, but when a cyclist called Ron Argent stopped by and noticed the bowl-shaped contours of the land, he asked the farmer if he could use it to practice on. For the next few years it became a cyclists heaven, who used the dirt roads that were carved out by the farm machinery.
Motorcyclists soon wanted to get in on the act and were regularly seen waiting for cyclists to finish before they can turn it up a notch. However, it wasn’t until after World War Two that Brands Hatch became serious about motor sports.
The grass circuit soon made way for a proper track in 1950, making it the first post-war, purpose-built circuit in Britain. Gradually, it emerged as a real force in the sport, with grandstand and marshal points popping up all over the track. Even a field hospital was added.
That opened the door to both motorbikes and cars to race around the circuit, and by the 1990’s the track received new pits lane and hospitality facilities.
Nowadays, the circuits headline international events are the DTM and the Blancpain GT Series, with the British Touring Car and British Superbike Championships regularly pulling in sell-out crowds for the track.
So, if it really is better than Silverstone, why not try it out for yourself?
With two choices of track layout, prime location just outside of London and whole host of Want2Race professionals on hand to make it the perfect track day experience, there really are no excuses.
